A sabian flange ride or a sound control ride. I often play one cymbal at a time and this is what I use time and time again. To me they are a better version of the "A.Zildjian Ride" we all want in our cymbal arsenal. Sabian doesn't make these anymore but you can order whatever you'd like from Sabian, otherwise you just have to find these and the sound controls. I own many flange rides and sound control rides and am selling some. The Flange Rides pop up occasionally, they soon will become sought-after because you can lay into this cymbal and play it with subtlety. They are the ultimate crash ride as well with slightly thinner edges with superb ability to open up as a crash while maintaining its ride cymbal distinction. They are extremely versatile along with a cutting and loud but nuanced dynamic bell. These are my favorite cymbals on the planet. Adding to the complexity of the sound while it still be a machine hammered cymbal. The Flange Ride specifically has hammering on the flanged edge itself, a characteristic I've not seen on the sound control ride flanged edge. The Flange Ride and The Sound Control have a specially designed slightly upturned flanged edge, allowing for faster decay, great crash-ride qualities and incredible balanced stick definition. If I am correct, Ed Thigpen helped Sabian create the Flange Ride and Sound Control Ride. The Sabian Flange Ride predates the Sabian AA classification and category. Sounds great as you would imagine!
